Obituary

RAPID CITY- James A. Jim Bergman II, 59, Rapid City, passed away February 13, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. James was born on November 29, 1952 in Stuttgart, Germany to James & Laurine Bergman. He graduated from Stevens High School and later attended Vocational school for certified welding. He served in the U.S. Army from 1974-1977 and was stationed in California and Hawaii. He was a Battalion Welder and Squad Leader in California for 18 months with the 7th Infantry Division. He then transferred to Hawaii for 14 months as a Welder in the 25th Infantry Division. From 1987-1992, he served in the National Guard as a metal worker, welder, and subsistence supply in the Class I Platoon at Camp Rapid. Jim enjoyed fishing, camping, doing leather-work, hunting, riding horses, and carpentry work. He worked for several construction companies, and eventually ended up working for Gustafson Builders where he thoroughly enjoyed working as a carpenter for 12 years. Survivors include his fianc, Christine Wedge, Rapid City; daughters, Brittani Bergman, Ft. Pierre; Lindzie Bergman, Rapid City; Jimi Kay Bergman, Rapid City; three grandchildren; two sisters, Barb (Larry) Koehn, Hallettsville, TX; Missy Bergman and Sandra Uhland, Houston, TX; two nephews, Mike Koehn, Houston, TX; and Jeff Koehn, Fairview, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Laurine Bergman. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Graveside services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Black Hills National Cemetery with Ret. Chaplain Herb B. Cleveland officiating. A procession will leave the funeral home at 8:15 a.m. Military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard.
