IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James R.
Galbraith, Sr.
October 26, 1930 – September 22, 2017
James R. Galbraith, Sr. went home to the Lord on September 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born in Rapid City on Oct. 26, 1930 to Ray and Charlotte (Schultz) Galbraith. Jim graduated from Rapid City High School in 1948.
He started his business career early. At 7 years of age he started selling newspapers in downtown Rapid City. Within a few years he had his own paper route. Later, Jim worked in the Rapid City Journal circulation department until high school graduation.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952, in Pearl Harbor and on the USS Pritchett. In Boston, on May 5, 1951, the luckiest day of his life, he met Pauline, his future wife. They were married in Rapid City, on July 5, 1953.
Soon after, he went to work at Fairmont Foods, beginning a 45 year career in the dairy industry.
During those years he worked for Fairmont Foods, Brown Swiss and Gillette Dairy. Jim attended night school at Rapid City National School of Business, graduating in 1958 with an Associate's degree in Business Administration and Accounting.
Jim and Pauline have one son, James Galbraith Jr., two daughters, Charlotte Rowland and Wanda Sugden, and her husband, Rich, who Jim considered his son, as well.
Jim was a faithful, loving husband of 64 years. Jim loved his family with his whole heart and loved his wife, Pauline, more than life itself and there's nothing he wouldn't have done for her. Throughout their married life Jim and Pauline enjoyed dancing together. "I loved him since the first day I saw him." Pauline reminisced.
Jim was an avid reader and at age 54 he took up golf. Always interested in the growth of Rapid City, he was active in community activities belonging to service clubs, Rapid City Chamber of Commerce and the Pennington County Republican Party. He was also a member of Canyon Lake Senior Citizen's Center.
His devotion to his family was a steady, constant love that they could depend on. He was always thankful for what he had and always saw his cup as overflowing. People who knew him thought of him as a kind and generous man.
He was a man that we will always miss & will always love & look forward to seeing him again.
