Obituary

DEADWOOD- James Eugene Hammett, 92, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Fountain Springs Health Care.

He was born May 1, 1925 in Sylacauga, AL to Verna Lydia Daw & Leon Galloway Hammett. The family moved to Port Arthur, TX when Jim was 11 years old. This is where he met Sarah Lee Messer. In 1943, he joined the Army & fought in WWII. He gave his life to Christ in 1945, married Sarah in 1946, & moved to San Antonio to attend International Bible College. They have four children—Beverly, Paul Richard, Jamie, & Dana—along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, & great-great-grandchildren. Jim retired from City Public Service Gas Dept. in San Antonio after 32 years of service. He taught the Bible for over 50 years. In 1995, Jim & Sarah moved to South Dakota where they lived until Jim's death.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Savot officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. Funeral Services Fri., Sep. 8

Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors rendered by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the South Dakota Army National Guard.
