BLACK HAWK- James F. "Jim" Knapp, 73, Black Hawk, died Monday, March 26, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House. Jim was born January 8, 1939 in Rapid City to Clyo and Margaret (Mann) Knapp. He graduated from Rapid City High School in 1956. He joined the SD National Guard, 109th Engineering Group on February 14, 1956 and served in various units until he retired as a Chief Warrant Officer Four in 1989. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed golfing with his life-long National Guard friends. He was proud of his two hole-in-one achievements!!! He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren, and was a member of the Elks Lodge. Jim and Jeanie (Frettem) were married on June 20, 1959 spending their married life in the Rapid City area. To this union, two children were born; James A. and Christine C. Knapp. His wife Jean preceded him in death in May, 1995. Jim later married Karen Bartelson. Survivors include son, James A. Knapp, Rapid City; daughter, Christine C. Knapp (Lenny Solano), Rapid City; his wife Karen; Rapid City; and her daughter, Lana Griencewic, Rapid City; brother, Henry Knapp, Rapid City; sister, Dotty Johnson, Rapid City; four grandchildren: Michelle (Toby) Mitchell; Josh Knapp (Brittney Edwards), Alyssa (Will) Crawford; Evan Griencewic; and four great grandchildren: Caleb and Trinity Mitchell; Braylon Knapp; Peyton Crawford; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his first wife , Jeanie; his parents, brother Clarence (Buzz) Knapp; sister Clara Heinrich. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 5-7:00 pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Funeral Home. Interment at Black Hills National Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Rushmore VFW Post 1273 and the SD National Guard will follow. A memorial has been established to Storybook Island.
