James R. Miller, 87, Rapid City, died Saturday, February 6, 2010 at a local nursing home. He was born July 14, 1922 in Kansas City Kansas to Ralph W. and Elva M. (Shireman) Miller. He attended high school in Sioux Falls then enlisted in the U S Army Air Corps in 1942 and then entered the U S Air Force retiring in 1965. He was a veteran of WWII and served in Europe. He was stationed in England, Greenland amoung other air force bases including several years at Ellsworth AFB. He married Naotha Howard at Burr Oak, Ks on Nov. 9, 1947. Following his discharge from the Air Force they lived in Sioux Falls, the Denver area then moved back to Rapid City in 1982 and have lived here since. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Naotha Miller, Rapid City, children, Mary Hannah, Minneapolis, MN, Laurenda Anderson of Willmar, MN, Joan Anderberg of Minneapolis, MN, Roger Miller of Omaha, NE, Janet Ryks of Rapid City, Kent Miller of Omaha, NE, and Pauline Miller of Stoke-on-Treat,England; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Celia Harshman of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and a grandson. A private family service will be held.
