RAPID CITY - James A. Smith, 80, joined our Lord, Monday, May 25, 2009. He was born to Charles and Agnes Smith June 21, 1928 in Aurora, SD. He married Margaret June Konencamp, Nov. 13, 1949 and moved to Rapid City, where he was a mechanic, gravel trucker, car salesman and business partner. James was a passionate fisherman and hunter, and fished many tournaments with his friend, Mike Heidipriem. He was preceded in death by one son, Tim Smith. James is survived by his wife, June, Rapid City; three sons, Jim Smith and Tom Smith, both of Black Hawk and Daniel Smith, Rapid City; two daughters, Susan Whealy, Black Hawk and Maureen Reed, Rapid City; 14 grandchildren, Brett, Nick, Sarah and Jacob Whealy, Jim, Staisha and Sondra Smith, Jessica and Brandon Smith, Crystal Morro, Jamie Smith, Lance, Susan and Annie Stoff; 16 great-grandchildren, Ariel, Miaa, Caiden, Kartney, Kriklyn, Kaven, Jazlyn, Layton, Grayson, Dalton, Cassidy, Mariah, Alejandro, Kylie, Tea and Ashton. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 9:00 a.m. Monday, June 1, at Our Lady of the Black Hills Catholic Church in Piedmont. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.
