Obituary

Rapid City James Irving Snipes, IV, 60, Rapid City died Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at his home in Rapid City, SD. James Irving Snipes, IV, was born June 9, 1951 at Manhattan, New York to James Irving and Ella Marie [Long] Snipes, III. He grew to adulthood and graduated from high school. James serviced in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as he entered the service on April 12, 1971 and was honorably discharged on April 22, 1975. He married Linda Smith on February 17, 1969 in North Carolina. They moved to Rapid City and James spent 20 years as a Correctional Officer for Pennington County. Survivors include his wife: Linda Snipes of Rapid City; two sons: James [Michelle] Snipes, V, and Dwayne Snipes both of Rapid City; one daughter: Keisha [Norman] Kamanga of Houston, TX; nine grandchildren: Dejtia, Ranieca, Aaryona, Tiaja, Spencer, DaVaun, TaKeyah, Jaleel, and Tru; one great-grandchild: Amara his mother: Ella Marie Snipes of Queens, New York; two sisters: Carolyn [Malcolm] Goring of Brooklyn, NY and Marie Fairnot of Atlanta, GA. James was preceded in death by his father in 1998. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 pm Wednesday, December 28 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. The funeral service for James is scheduled for 10:00 am Thursday, December 29 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with Chaplain [Ret] Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with Military Honors provided by TREA Chapter 29.
