James "Barry" Stoick, 75, died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
James "Barry" Stoick was born August 26, 1941 at Belle Fourche, SD to Jim and Cora [Mullenix] Stoick of Newell, where he lived with his parents and baby sister Barbara until 1944 when the young family moved to Timber Lake. Barry attended Holy Cross School graduating from the eighth grade. He graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1960. In 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army and was one of the first American Troops to serve in Vietnam, where he served a full tour of duty before being honorably discharged.
He then worked in the grocery industry for the next 20 years until he purchased a business known as Stoick Super Stop in Rapid City, which he owned and operated for 23 years. He retired in 2007 and continued to live in Rapid City.
Survivors include his daughter: Traci (Jerry) Schafer of Denver, CO; one granddaughter: Toni Marie Schafer; two brothers: Bill Stoick of Goodland, KS and Benj (Sheila) Stoick of Mobridge, SD; two sisters: Barbara Stoick of Rapid City, SD and Bettie (Richard) Skaaden of Keller, TX.
Barry was preceded in death by his parents and one baby brother.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 13 at Blessed Sacrament Church with a Christian Wake/Rosary Service at 7:00 pm.
Christian Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday September 14, 2016 at the church.
Burial will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Memorials may be sent to St. Elizabeth Seton School.
