Obituary

Ft. Meade - James F. "Jim" Tuscher, 78, Rapid City, died Monday, July 23, 2012 at the Ft. Meade VA Health Care Medical Center. James Francis Tuscher was born March 29, 1934 at Ipswich, South Dakota. He moved with his family to Rapid City where he grew to adulthood and attended school. He worked at the Rapid Crystal Ice Plant as a youth. He entered the Unites States Marine Corps on September 29, 1953 and was honorably discharged on September 28, 1955 as a Corporal. He serviced during the Korean Conflict. He married Virginia Ann Fedde in 1958 at Wolf Point, Montana. They lived in Rapid City where he worked two jobs most of his life and worked as a shipping supervisor at the South Dakota State Cement Plant for 37 years before his retirement. He was a hard-worker, generous person, good husband, father, and grandfather and was very close to his three grandsons and recently his great-granddaughter, Isabella. He loved to read books and enjoyed watching sports on TV, working in his yard and garden, and watching the birds in the birdhouses at Ft. Meade. He was also close to his loving poodle, Freddy. Jim spent the last 20 months at Ft. Meade Medical Center and never complained and he was very grateful and appreciative to all the staff who took wonderful care of him at Ft. Meade and all the visitors who stopped by. This was all very important to him. He missed the love of his live, wife Virginia, who died on June 7, 2012 and he had written a special love letter to Virginia on how much he loved her. Survivors include two daughters: Bridget [Greg] Stone of Rapid City and Suzette [Thomas] Ryland of Rapid City; three grandchildren: Zachary Maurice Stone, Cody James Stone, and Rory John Stone; one great-granddaughter: Isabella Marie Stone; and three sisters: Agetha Smith of Rapid City, Patricia Wempe of Rapid City, and Theresa [Joe] Spencer of Littleton, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Virginia; one son: Daniel Donald Tuscher on April 21, 1979; sister: Marcella Tuscher as an infant; brother: Stephen Tuscher as an infant; brother: Stephen Tuscher; sister: Marie Hawley; and sister: Frances Dowling. Jim was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City. His Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Friday, July 27 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 4500 Jackson Boulevard with Rev. Timothy Castor. Inurnment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Rapid City with Military Graveside Honors by Rushmore VFW Post #1273 and South Dakota National Guard. A Memorial has been set up for the Veterans Administration Veterans Fund at Ft. Meade.
