Obituary

Janet Elaine (Zink) Miller, was born 9/3/1942 to Alan/Geraldine (Waltoff) Zink in Winner, SD— the oldest of three siblings.

Along with brothers Terry Zink and Bill Rice, she grew up quickly. From the time she was 9 yrs old she was washing dishes, cooking and waiting tables at the family's business, Joe's Cafe in Winner. Working hard became a lifelong value whether she was cutting hair, keeping her home, watching children, or managing a MiniMart.

Married 3/31/61, Al and Jan built their 60 year legacy in the Black Hills loving and serving others, prioritizing faith and family. Introduced to Jesus when she was young, her faith grew significantly while raising teenage sons and serving kids/teens at First Christian Church/The Foundry. Additionally, she volunteered with Boy Scouts, and Canyon Lake Little League where she ran the concession stand and even coached for a season. When she wasn't working, her favorite pastimes/hobbies included going to garage sales, bowling, making ceramics and caring for her plants.

In this last season, Jan and Al enjoyed the community they found with friends and caretakers at St Martins Village. Mom became one who cared about those who cared for her. Residents and staff alike were loved and will be missed.

Janet went home to be with Jesus 8/14/2023. Brothers Terry (Carol) Zink of Arboles, CO and Bill Rice of Gillette, WY; Sister-In-Law Lila Ann Kellogg of Rapid City; Sons Lee (Jane) Miller of Rapid City, SD; Rusty (Connie) Miller of Papillion, NE; and Corey (Julie) Miller of Lumberton, TX; as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren (and counting); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive her.

Join the family at Mom's two favorite places. Sunday, August 20, from 4-6pm we will receive friends at the entrance to Storybook Island (bring a lawn chair and sit a while).  Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:30 am on Monday, August 21, at The Foundry Church, 730 Quincy Street. Wear bright or floral prints for her memorial service and luncheon.

Her public visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, August 20, 2023 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Private burial will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

Anyone who knew Mom, knew she loved Storybook Island. Memorials will be directed there and should be sent to: Janet E. Miller Memorial Fund at Black Hills Federal Credit Union, PO Box 1420, Rapid City, SD 57709.
