IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janice Lorraine
Bass
November 7, 1938 – May 26, 2024
Janice Lorraine Bass, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully from this life into the loving arms of our Lord, on May 26, 2024 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 85. She bravely battled dementia the last several years of her life, and will be remembered for her sweet smile, her kindness, her amazing strength, and her love of ice cream.
Jan was born on November 7, 1938, to Dewey and Lorraine Fields in Dodge City, Kansas where she lived for 17 years. She moved to Colorado in 1954 where she attended Fort Collins High School and Colorado State University. In 1956 Jan met the love of her life, Bob Bass, in the campus ice cream shop where she worked. They were married in 1957, and moved to a cattle ranch near Cody, Nebraska where they lived their lives together while raising two children, Deb and Paul. Jan was a dedicated ranch wife, and was by her husband's side with many of the ranch duties, including delivering baby calves.
Jan dedicated her life to being a loving mother and homemaker. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Despite giving 100% to that endeavor, she still managed to be actively involved in community organizations. She was president of her PEO chapter, and represented her chapter at the state convention. She was actively involved in her church, and was a leader for several youth organizations including 4-H and Scouts. Jan had excellent culinary skills, and was a gracious hostess. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends, as well as cooking for brandings and ranch hands. Jan loved to crochet, and made many beautiful things that she shared with others. Jan will be dearly missed by all her knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Bass; daughter, Deborah (Randy) Preach, stepbrother, Byron (Leah) Essig; grandchildren, Ashley (Regan) Amato, RJ (Kaily) Preach; and greatgrandchildren, Saylor, Reagan, Hudson, and Austyn. She is preceded in death by her son, Paul and her parents.
A farewell ceremony followed by a luncheon reception will take place on Friday, May 31, 2024. Visitation will be held at Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary, 8555 East Pinnacle Peak Road, Scottsdale, Arizona from 9:00 - 10:00 am, with a funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. The family requests that guests wear colorful attire, and not black.
Jan will be flown to Rapid City, South Dakota and services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 710 Kansas City Street, on Wednesday, June 5th at 10:00 am, with a viewing prior from 9:00 - 10:00 am. A graveside service will be conducted at Mountain View cemetery in Rapid City, South Dakota, where she will be buried next to her beloved son, Paul.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Hospice of the Valley in Jan's name.
