Janice (Neacy) Jacobsen Powell, 78, of Spearfish, died Friday, October 24, at the Hospice House in Rapid City. She passed away peacefully, with family at her bedside. She was born May 23,1936 in Yankton to Alice and Randolph Jacobsen. Janice was the fifth of nine children. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1954. On February 5,1956 she married the love of her life, John F. Powell, in Yankton. To this union, three children were born - Jay, Jane, and Jill. John and Neacy spent their married life in Rapid City and Pierre, SD. After John's death in 1983, Janice moved to her hometown of Yankton to be closer to her parents and siblings. Janice was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering. Janice took great pleasure in her family and friends and she loved being a homemaker. She is survived by her three children - Jay (Christine) Powell, Jane Leone, Jill (Chuck) Point; four sisters: Marjorie Berke, Margaret Engen, Sue (Larry) Good, and Becky (Terry) Thunker; three brothers: Bill (Kay) Jacobsen, Tom (Jean) Jacobsen, and Steve (Chris) Jacobsen; sisters-in-law Doris Powell and Pam Jacobsen; ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Randolph Jacobsen; her husband John, her brother Jon (Jack) Jacobsen; brothers-in-law Jim Berke, Jim Engen, Glenn Randolph; sister-in-law Evelyn Randolph; grandchildren Daniel Leone and Grace Point; and son-in-law Dave Leone. Most recently her brother-in-law, Leonard Powell passed away. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, Oct. 31, at the First United Methodist Church, 117 N. Central Avenue, in Pierre, with the Rev. Dan Bader officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Pierre. A memorial has been established.
