Obituary

Janice Arlene Stimson Moses passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, December 30, 2022 at First United Methodist Church at 10:30 am with Pastor Jeff Hauser.

Janice was born on December 31, 1942, in Pulaski, VA. She was the daughter of Lillian Brooke (Dixon) Stimson and William Vance Stimson.

She attended Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA from 1961-1963 and earned a B.S. in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA in 1966. Throughout her 40-year career as a Registered Nurse, patient care was her passion. Janice demonstrated this in her compassion to those she cared for at hospitals/clinics she worked at in Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and South Dakota. She was also an example and mentor to many nursing students, serving as an instructor at Mississippi Gulf Coast Jr College (1977-1979) and John C. Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Al (1982-1990). One of her career highlights was being named Director of Nursing at York General Hospital in Rock Hill, SC, in 1971.

Janice met James Thomas (Tom) Moses on a blind date in Richmond, VA and they married in 1965. They had one daughter, Deborah (Debbie) Suzanne Moses. During the course of their life together, they lived in South Carolina, Mississippi, Virginia and Alabama. They moved to South Dakota in 2000 to be closer to grandchildren. At that time, Janice joined Rapid City Regional Hospital as a home health nurse until her retirement. She always remained a southerner at heart and never lost her accent!

Helping strengthen others' faith in Christ was important to her, as she and Tom, along with other couples, helped plant various Presbyterian Church of America churches in Mississippi and Alabama.

Throughout the years, Janice loved playing the piano and organ, sewing, beaches (especially the Gulf Coast), serving in church, cooking good southern food, doing her own yardwork/snow removal and being a devoted grandma to Justin Thomas Ketel, Jason Brooks Ketel and Jessica Anne Ketel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers--Frank Stimson and William Stimson. She is survived by her daughter and grandchildren.

She struggled with vocal spasmodic dysphonia her most adult life. Memorials may be sent to: Dysphonia International, 300 Park Boulevard | Suite 175 | Itasca, IL 60143. www.dysphonia.org .
