RAPID CITY- Janice Arlene Holbrook, age 86, of Rapid City, died on Friday, November 23, 2012, at the the Golden LivingCenter-Bella Vista Nursing Home. Janice was born at home in October 2, 1926 in Ferney, South Dakota to Oscar and Lillian (Lorenz) Anderson. A few short years after that, her family moved to Spruell, South Dakota where her father developed a successful farming business. She attended elementary school at a country school close to Meadow, South Dakota. Her parents sent her to high school in Lemmon, South Dakota where she continued her studies and participated as a majorette for the Lemmon, South Dakota High School. She graduated in 1944 and began working in a bank in the town of Lemmon. In 1946, she met and married Gale Holbrook. They continued living in Lemmon, raised two children and moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1959. Their life in Rapid for the next 25 years focused on building a business and raising their children. They sold their business in 1984. Janice spent her retirement years adoring her grandchildren and great grandchildren and lending moral support to her husband's political career. She committed herself to her church circle group and teaching Sunday School. She loved children and found great happiness in helping young children understand the teachings of the Bible. After those long and productive years, she was also able to devote time to nurturing the beauty of her flowers and trees. She was a country girl who loved the beauty of nature and delighted in working in the soil. She was one of those unfortunate people to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She was one of the fortunates to be surrounded by a loving family. She is survived by her husband, Gale Holbrook, her daughter, Deanna, her son, Jeff, eight grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a child of the South Dakota prairie and a woman of the Black Hills who loved the beauty of this area. She is in the arms of her heavenly Father and will now get to see the mother she missed so much. She suffers no longer. She will be missed by all. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 29, at South Canyon Lutheran Church with the Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. A luncheon will take place immediately after the service. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 2:00 p.m. A memorial in Janice A.
