Janis Galloway Leigh joined her heavenly father and family on Tuesday, October 24th, after a long and hard fought battle with Huntington's Disease. Jan was born on August 21st, 1948 in Glens Falls, NY and grew up in Lake George. She was the daughter of Ruth Galloway (Huddelson) and Dennis Galloway.
Janis is survived by her two sons, Matthew Ramos (Tonya) and Cody LaGrande (Holly) as well as her two siblings, Denise MacEwan and Kevin Galloway (Jennifer) and her much loved twin grandchildren, Noelle & Christian Ramos.
After graduating from Lake George High School, Jan earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education at SUNY Oneonta. Shortly thereafter, she traveled to Germany to work as an elementary school teacher for the Department of Defense Overseas School System. Later, Jan moved to Rapid City, South Dakota where she worked as a certified school counselor. She resided in the Black Hills for more than 40 years.
Janis was very passionate about her faith, her close friends, Christian music, cooking, and she had an infectious laugh and sense of humor.
A private ceremony of life will be scheduled at a later date to be held in Lake George, NY. The family requests that any donations in Janis' honor be made to the Huntington's Disease Society of America at https://hdsa.org.
