HERMOSA - Jerry A. Bell, 69, Hermosa, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Jerry Alvin Bell was born Sept. 9, 1941 in Rapid City to Durward Ike and Kathaleen Bell. He grew up on the family ranch near Fairburn. He graduated from Buffalo Gap High School and attended two years of trade school in Rapid City. At age 26, he served two years in the U.S. Army. When his military commitment was over, he went to work for the City of Rapid City Water Dept. and worked as a mechanic at Dodge Town. He married Doneen Ogden in 1969. Together with her other four children (Kathy, Kora, Ora, Kara), they added one more child, Jerry Chandler. Doneen and Jerry were married 10 years. He moved to Hermosa in 1980, worked for the Town of Hermosa in the Water Dept and was a volunteer firefighter in those early years in Hermosa. Jerry enjoyed rodeos, riding motorcycles, working in his wood shop and spending time with his family. He is survived by a son, Chandler (Kim) Bell; three grandchildren, Andrew, Kim and Desiree; four step- children, Kathy (Tony) Arbuckle, Kora Lively, Ora (Lisa) Ogden Sr., and Kara Waller; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Carolyn (Tom) Gilles; five nieces and nephews; and a friend, Cynthia Tjaden. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at the funeral home with Chaplain (Ret.) Herb B. Cleveland officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the VFW Post 1273 Honor Guard and the South Dakota National Guard will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
