December 15, 1954 – September 15, 2025

Jerry Deschamp, 70, of Rapid City, SD passed away on September 15, 2025 at the Hospice House of the Black Hills.

Jerry was born December 15, 1954 in Rapid City, SD to Cliff and Delores (Hatch) Deschamp. Jerry was one of seven children and is survived by Don, Ron, Joe, Barb, Dan and Kathy along with numerous nieces and nephews. His family often moved as his dad was building homes. He grew up in Rapid Valley catching frogs, fishing with sticks and keeping snakes in his pocket, which he later taught his grandkids. When Jerry was ten, they moved to West Boulevard, where he often enjoyed sneaking out with his brothers or jumping down the laundry chute to scare his mom. Later, at age sixteen, the family moved out to Highway 79 where Jerry spent his days helping with farming and ranching and raising all of the animals that his family kept.

In Hermosa, Jerry met Jeri Woods (Allard), and together they built a home on Highway 79. Jeri brought her two sons to join their union, Jason and Martin Woods. Jerry and Jeri later welcomed Megan and Amanda to complete their family.

Jerry was hardworking and entrepreneurial; he worked with his dad and brother doing concrete work and owned a TMA dealership in Wyoming. He then owned and operated Always Greener Lawn Fertilization. In his later years, he worked in the oil fields in North Dakota and later enjoyed working with his close friend Greg.

Yet, his greatest role—and his truest calling—was being a father and grandfather. He truly loved spending time with his family. He was always the first to ask when everyone was getting together and what Jeri was cooking. Jerry often babysat for his grandkids and always took them on walks and played outside. Our fondest memories will be of going to Spring Creek Campground to cook out and play in the water. Grandpa Jerry will be remembered for always answering our phone calls, no matter the time of day and knowing the answer to nearly everything about nature and life that you could think of.

Jerry is survived by his former wife, Jeri, step-sons, Jason Woods (granddaughter Amelia), Martin Woods, Megan Deschamp, and Amanda Tolsma (Nick), and grandchildren Finn, Parker and Lucy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Ella.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 4, from 4-6 pm at The 707 in Baken Park, Rapid City, SD . Family and friends are invited to come share stories and honor Jerry's memory.
