Jessie M. Speck, 84, passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House.

Jessie Mae Buchholz was born on July 5, 1931, in Avon, SD, to Albert M. and Opal Mae (Brodkorb) Buchholz. On July 9, 1955, she was united in marriage to Vernon Speck in Mitchell and they made their home in Wessington Springs. She worked for the City of Wessington Springs as Finance Officer for 18 years, the Jerauld County Auditor's Office, the ASA Office, Jerauld County Farmer's Union and Ideal Cleaners. She also volunteered at the Consignment Store for several years after retiring. Vern and Jessie moved to Rapid City to be closer to children and grandchildren in 2009. Jessie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Jessie was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, American Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors of America and Canyon Lake Senior Center.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon Speck of Rapid City; her daughter, Amy (Rod) Willman of Rapid City; her son, Jeff (Diane) Speck of Rapid City; her sisters, Blanche (Roger) Swenson of Pahrump, NV, Marjorie Swenson of Mitchell, Alta Butterfield of Wessington Springs and LaVonne Dufrain of Guthrie, OK; her brother, Dareld (Vi) Buchholz of Wessington Springs; and three grandchildren, Jacob Willman, Nicholas Speck and Rachel Speck.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Beverly; and a brother, Mike.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at the funeral home. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. There will be a Celebration of Life for Jessie at a later date in Wessington Springs.
