Obituary

Jimmie Dean Matuska, 62, died May 3rd' 2017 surrounded by friends and family at the Hospice House of the Black Hills. At his request, no services will be held, but he would appreciate it if you would think of one special moment you shared together. A Celebration of Life will be held later.

Jimmie was born in Yankton SD on August 28t , 1954 to James and Lola M. (Calhoon) Matuska. He lived with his parents in Bonesteel, SD until his family, including his grandmother Artie J Calhoon,  moved to Rapid City, SD in 1956.

He attended Pinedale Grade School and West Junior High and graduated from Steven's High School in 1972. Jimmie enjoyed playing baseball in his youth and competed on the high school gymnastics team. He was a natural athlete with many diverse abilities but his best was making friends in any gathering .

He owned several businesses and when he worked for others, he was the ultimate salesman-always helping a business build its bottom line as if he owned it and having a good time through it all-with his huge personality and sense of humor.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lola Matuska, his uncle Ralph M . Calhoon, and by his grandparents Edgar L. and Artie J. Calhoon and Joseph and Rose (Kotalik) Matuska.

He is survived by many dear friends and his dog Buddy; his brother, Edgar W. Matuska  and his wife Joan, his niece Nicole Matuska Moscheck and husband Mike, great nephews Gavin James & Lincoln Edgar and great niece Mya; niece Jacqueline J. Matuska, his nephew Edgar J. Matuska and his wife, Lisa and great nephew Rylan, and many cousins including Henry (Sonny) Pesicka, John and Judy  Pesicka and Kenneth and Georgia Pesicka.

His ashes will be interned in the Rosebud Cemetery in Bonesteel, SD next to his beloved grandmother Artie.

Cards may be sent to: c/o Scott Yeoman 5885 Cleghorn Canyon Road, Rapid City, SD 57702

A memorial will be established for the Rapid City Dog Park where Jimmie spent a great deal of time and made many great friends (you know who you are!) and to the Hospice House where they took such good care of him.

"He sleeps....and has found peace ."

Jimmie Dean Matuska, son of James & Lola Matuska, a Grandson, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Beloved Friend, & One Hell Of A Salesman, passed away today peacefully with dignity at the Hospice House Of The Hills, Rapid City, SD, surrounded in presence or thoughts by loving family, great friends, & the caring staff of Hospice.

From birth to death, Jimmie's life was a whirlwind of life's adventures from the extreme heights of dazzling peaks to a few dark & deep valleys. Jimmie would want us to, as should we, remember & honor those good times, his accomplishments but not his failings, his swagger & character, & his loving heart.

Jimmie was a caring, giving & diligent friend, a resourceful & accomplished salesman, & had a great zeal to accomplish that which had not been done. He was a meticulous & stylish dresser, neat to a fault . . . as was his car & his living quarters when he was at the top of his game. He loved golf, his dog, baseball, & women - but not necessarily that order. Wow, did he love the ladies!

Most of all we remember that twinkle in his eyes, that devilish sly smile, & that "Oops" I just got caught expression that he gave us so often. Jimmie's demons could frustrate, disappoint, or even anger us at times, but he was so giving, so funny, made you laugh, the sideshow that draws you in, the life of the party. It just makes you smile to remember!

Life was his adventure & he lived it his way with zest & vigor. Sort of like his favorite singer's theme song . . . Sinatra's "My Way"!  He loved to live!

Some will say that Jimmie left us too early. I say that when a star illuminates ones universe so brilliantly that it fills our very being with warmth & joy . . . it naturally leaves a path of disruption as it's life force is spent . . . & then softly & peacefully slips away.

Love ya & miss you already Jimmie . . .

Rest In Peace!
