Obituary

RAPID CITY | Joan Ebert, 95, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Westhills Village Health Care Facility. She was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Arrowhead, SD, to Oscar and Mary (Weinandy) Lund. She grew up on the family ranch near Faith, graduating from Faith High School in 1936. She came to Rapid City that fall to attend the Black Hills Commercial College. After graduation she was employed by the Buckingham Transportation Company where she worked for the better part of 20 years. On Sept. 20, 1941, she married Bill Ebert. The couple continued to live in Rapid City. Joan had various hobbies and enjoyed doing volunteer work. She was a Girls Club board member for many years, serving as president twice and as a Regional Director. She was a member and past president of the GFWC Fortnightly Club. For several years she was a member of the Rapid City Toastmistress Club, was a parliamentarian, and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter Q. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church. Survivors include one brother, Gene Lund, Rapid City; a nephew, Mel Gerlach, Prescott AZ; nieces, Linda Gerlach Brady, Littleton, CO, Vicki Lund Newell, Parker, CO, and Patricia Lund, Oakland, CA; and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her husband, Bill; twin sister, Audrey Gerlach; brother, Vern Lund; sister, Eudora Walters; and niece, Marsha Walters Madison. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. Ted Huffman and Rev. Kathleen Batchelder officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Donations in her memory may be made to First Congregational Church in Rapid City or any charity.
