Obituary

Joan Elizabeth Gunderson (65, Rapid City, SD/ Chandler, AZ) passed away Sunday April 6th, 2025 at Chandler Regional Hospital as the result of an Asthma attack.

Joan was born, June 27th 1959 to Wally (Wallace)& Dee (Deloris) Gunderson in Madison, SD. She was born an identical twin to her sister Jean and completed the children of Wally Dee, as the youngest of all their children.

When she was 4 years old, she moved with her family to a home on Brookside Drive in Rapid City, SD.  There she attended South Canyon Grade School, West Junior High and graduated from Stevens High School in 1977.

While attending grade school she participated in the Band Program throughout her schooling and became a proficient Bassoon player.  She was a member of Stevens Concert Band and Stevens Marching Band.

After graduating, she attended South Dakota School of Mines and later relocated to Littleton, CO and welcomed her daughter Elizabeth Poste in 1981.

Throughout her career she worked in the Corporate World and retired in 2020.

In 2003 she married Jack Stanfa (Englewood, CO) and they spent an amazing 20 years together before his passing in 2023.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Poste (Jeff Farmer) of Littleton, CO.  Her mother, Dee Gunderson and her brother, Sam Gunderson (both of Rapid City, SD and Sun Lakes, AZ), her 2 grandchildren Jase & Jaelyn Farmer (Littleton, CO) and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends, all whom that she deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Stanfa (2023), father Wallace (Wally) Gunderson (2007), her twin sister Jean Gunderson (1964), sister's Susan Gunderson (1972) and Sandra Karlin (2022), as well as her paternal and fraternal grandparents.

Memorial Services will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 10:30am at the Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel (Rapid City, SD). Private interment services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

In keeping with Joanie's loving and generous spirit, it was her decision to donate so other's may live. She gave the ultimate gift following her death, the gift of life as an organ, eye and tissue donor.
