Joan "Joann" Marie Goodart passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Auxiliary Hospice House. She was born on October 18, 1935 in Northville, SD to Glenn and Florence (Hadley) Snyder. Joann grew up in Rapid City. On August 23, 1953 she married James Goodart. Joann devoted her life to caring for her husband, her sons and her grandchildren. Her home was a source of great pride, always immaculate and welcoming. She learned to cook and bake from her mother. Holidays, birthdays and Sunday dinners were great gatherings. Joann was a fireball in a tiny package. She taught her sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren that; "If it's worth doing, It's worth doing right". That applied to cleaning house, growing tomatoes, planting flowers, baking birthday cakes and sewing wedding dresses. Joann was especially close to her twin sister, Joyce. They loved nothing more than a good day of shopping for the grandkids and going out to lunch. Joyce and Joann both fought tooth and nail against Alzheimer's and were taken from this world way too soon. Joann is survived by her husband, Jim, Rapid City, her brother, Fred (Joanne) Snyder, California, her sons; Dan (Madonna), Rapid City, and Chuck (Julie), Merriman, NE. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jessica Johnson, Hill City, Neill Goodart (Shana) Rapid City, Chris (Jessica) Goodart, Florida, Nicholas Goodart, Casper, WY, Adam Goodart and Aaron Goodart, Rapid City. Joann's great grandchildren; Emalyn, Kahne and Lylah (Chris and Jessica), Starr and Meadow, (Neill and Shana) and Taylor, (Nicholas) will miss their Grandma Goodart and her always full cookie jar. Joann had many nieces and nephews who always counted on their Aunt Jo for advice and comfort. Joann was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters; Maxine Bull, Edna Wright, Doris Curns and Joyce Fuerstenau (her twin) and her brothers; Don Snyder, Bob Snyder, John Snyder and Dennis Snyder. At her request, there will be no funeral service. A visitation will be on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 from 5:00 pm until 7:00pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, October 21 at the Hill City Cemetery with Rev. Ron Walker officiating. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House.
