IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joann Lynn
Czywczynski
May 27, 1962 – October 14, 2025
JoAnn Lynn Czywczynski, age 63, was called home to her eternal rest on October 14, 2025, in Rapid City, South Dakota—the same place where her beautiful life began on May 27, 1962. After a courageous battle with cancer, JoAnn entered the loving arms of her Lord, surrounded by her family, and finally found peace.
A proud graduate of Central High School, Class of 1980, JoAnn was known for her intelligence, athletic spirit, and joyful energy. She excelled in track, proudly represented her school as a Cobbler Coed, and shared her musical gifts in the school band as a clarinet player.
Guided by faith and a heart for service, JoAnn continued her education at Creighton University, where she obtained her B.S. of Radiologic Technology. JoAnn went on to serve others in her profession in Texas and California. Her gentle spirit and caring touch left a lasting impact on many.
JoAnn's journey was one of grace, perseverance, and faith. A devoted member of both AA and Al-Anon, she lived her recovery through service to others—offering hope, understanding, and the healing power of God's love. Her life was a reflection of her belief that faith can transform pain into purpose and darkness into light.
She was a devoted daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother whose love radiated through every part of her life. JoAnn is survived by her mother, Jeanette Czywczynski; her daughter, Jessica Czywczynski; her siblings James T. Czywczynski, Judith Sawyer, Jill (Dan) Trainer, Julie Meyer, and Jacalyn Czywczynski; and her cherished grandchildren, Tyson L. Sterkel, Mya R. Sterkel, and Summer L. Sterkel, who were the joy of her heart. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
JoAnn now rejoices in Heaven, reunited with her father, James A. Czywczynski: grandparents, Bernard and Laura Czywczynski and John and Olga Baranko; and uncles Leo Czywczynski and Verlin Brown.
To honor JoAnn's memory and the faith that guided her life, memorial contributions may be made to WAVI or the Passages Place of Rapid City, a community that reflected her enduring commitment to hope and healing. The Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home has been entrusted with her arrangements.
A Vigil Service will be held on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 6:00 p.m. A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, with a luncheon and time of fellowship to follow. JoAnn will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.
Though we grieve JoAnn's passing, we rejoice in the eternal life she now shares with Christ. Her gentle soul, compassionate heart, and unwavering faith will forever remain a blessing to all who were privileged to know and love her.
