IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jodi L.
"Poad" Mcdermand
March 24, 1968 – July 25, 2016
RAPID CITY | A beautiful ending to a beautiful life, all Jodi was waiting for was her motorcycle boots, to know that we'd be alright and to hear her bike rumble again. Jodi Lynn "Poad" McDermand gently passed away at 10:35 p.m. on Monday, July 25, 2016.
Jodi's life began on March 24, 1968, in Rapid City. She lived her entire childhood on the family ranch in Fairburn and there has not been a dull moment since. We will always cherish our memories of growing up; especially the times we spent with our cousins.
She brought joy to her parents. She was a constant playmate, best friend and soulmate with her two sissies. She loved her nephews and nieces fiercely. She called Brian and Tayler her boys. She was their best friend and confidant and was also available to them 24/7. Then there were her chickens, as she referred to Zach and Natty. She loved them as her own and there wasn't a thing she wouldn't do for them. Finally, Jodi's littlest peep, Piper Joy. They only had a few short months together but Jodi showered her with love every chance she could and Jodi also made sure story time will always be special.
Jodi lived her life to the fullest and it would take a novel to share her story. Jodi loved her family, friends, and the outdoors. She especially loved hiking with her family and riding her Harley; or floating as she called it. Her style, her smile, her wicked sense of humor, and her quest for adventure cannot be matched.
Jodi graduated with a business degree from Black Hills State University. During her college years she worked at Custer State Park and made life-long friends. She spent her adult years working for Pennington County. She worked for the jail for five years and for the Pennington County Public Defender for over 20 years. She made so many friends during this time, some she considered family, that we honestly can't count them.
Jodi was preceded in death by her Dad, Donald McDermand in 1999. She is survived by her Momma, Jeane McDermand; her sissies, Joni Bock and Julie Berger and their husbands, Brian Bock and Matt Berger. Her nephews and nieces, Brian Perli and Tabitha, Tayler Perli and Kami, and Zachary Berger, Natalie Berger and Piper Joy Perli. Her Aunt Amy Miner, Uncle Tom Nelson and numerous cousins. She is also survived by her soul sisters and brothers who are also loved by her entire family: Tiffany Payne, MeLisa Elijah, Tracy Wilkerson, Janice Martin, Cyndy Ferguson, Stephanie Hogan, Tony Valandra, Ladd Poitra, and Arnie Laubach. Last but not least, her bulldog Bruce Lee.
Ride safe, watch out for deer, and PEACE OUT!
A Celebration of her Life will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, at Canyon Lake United Methodist Church, 3500 Canyon Lake Drive, in Rapid City, with the Rev. Eric Grinager officiating.
We will be establishing a memorial in honor of Jodi that will go to several events or charities that will help with brain cancer research.
