John F. Evans, 59, of Rapid City, died July 11, 2016 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.

He was born on August 27, 1956 in Hoven, SD to Oliver and Elaine (Doerr) Evans. John grew up with his siblings in Agar until he was nine years old when the family moved to Rapid City. He graduated from the old Central High School in 1974 and eventually graduated from Western Dakota Vocational Technical School with an Associates of Arts degree in Electronics with a certificate in Networking.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking. He was also very supportive of Alcoholics Anonymous.

He worked as an IT specialist for the Pennington County Sheriff's Office at the time of his death.

He is survived by his siblings; Nancy (Dale) Hurtig, Rapid City, Diane (Kevin) Luft, Sterling, CO and Robert Evans, Bremerton, WA., a nephew, Corey Hurtig, nieces; Christie Hurtig and Caitlin (Andrew) Nissen, all of Rapid City.

John was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Alano Society Clubhouse to support and benefit the many friends who touched his life.
