Rapid City - John L. Gooding, Jr. 71, died Monday, May 6, 2013 at the Golden Living Center-Prairie Hills in Rapid City, SD. John LeRoy Gooding, Jr. was born July 29, 1941 at Wessington Springs, SD to John LeRoy and Dorothy Mary [Parker] Gooding. He grew up and attended primary and secondary schools in Wessington Springs. John worked at Ray and Jerry's Jack and Jill grocery story in Wessington Springs, on a ranch in Montana, at Memorial Hospital in Wessington Springs, and as a postal Highway Contract Routes [Star Route] driver for over 30 years. He was a member of St. Michael's Latin Mass Community at Immaculate Conception Chapel in the Diocese of Rapid City, SD. John lost his battle with cancer on May 6, 2013 in Rapid City, SD. His positive attitude throughout was an inspiration to all. Survivors include two sisters: Deenna Ocean Gaffney of Rapid City and Debra Wright of Huron, SD; and four nieces, three nephews and several cousins. Visitation will be 4:00 to 5:00 pm Thursday, May 9 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard and followed by a Rosary at 5:00 pm. Requiem Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am Friday, May 10 at Immaculate Conception Church, 955 - 5th Street, with Rev. Christopher Hathaway as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at Rapid City. There will be a luncheon following burial at the church. In lieu of memorial contributions, John requests prayers and rosaries said in his name and for the intentions of the Pope and St. Michael's Latin Mass Community.
