John Samuel Hiller, 76, of Rapid City passed away Sunday, July 4 at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
A graveside service will be 12:30pm Tuesday, July 6, at Black Hills National Cemetery with Chaplain Rene Porter-Stewart officiating. Full military honors will be provided by the Spearfish Veterans Honor Guard. Online condolences can be left at www.osheimschmidt.com
John was born June 19, 1945 in Titusville, PA the son of Jacob and Mary (Hull) Hiller. John enjoyed working with his hands and was a skilled carpenter and mason. He also made a living working at a cutlery factory in Pennsylvania. He was married three times and enjoyed many relationships with his children, grandchildren and stepchildren. In 2003, John departed Pennsylvania for good after the death of his mother, to be closer to his children that lived in Rapid City. John purchased a house with his son Clarence, and visited his daughter Traci, frequently. One of John's favorite hobbies was gold prospecting, and he enjoyed traveling along the streams in the Black Hills looking for gold. Another of John's favorite activities was storytelling and he would spend hours regaling tales of old-time values and common sense advice.
John is survived by his children; John Hiller, Clarence Hiller, Frank Hiller, Terri (Miles) Manning, Traci (Adam) Scott, and Mary (Dionese) Espilate, 7 grandchildren; J.D. Hiller, Shay Manning, Miles Manning Jr., Victoria Huber, Elizabeth Scott, Abigail Espilate, and Mary Espilate, 5 great-grandchildren including his beloved great-grandson Graecyn Huber, and brother; Jake Hiller.
John was preceded in death by his granddaughter; Nicole Hiller in 2021, and his parents.
