Lennox - John P. Lykken, 64, Rapid City died Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home at Lennox. John Palmer Lykken was born January 14, 1948 at Chicago, Illinois to Palmer G. and Mildred [Iverson] Lykken. He grew to adulthood and attended school at Elmwood Park, Ill and graduated from Elmwood Park High School. After high school he served an apprenticeship to become a tool and die maker. He also branched out into computer programing in numeric control machines. He married Susan Kay Stone on July 12, 1969 at Sioux City, Iowa. He worked in various machine shops until 1985 when they moved to Hill City, SD. In Hill City he owned and operated John's Feed and Repair from 1987 to 1998. During this time he designed and made hundreds of projects throughout the area, including self-closing gates for the US Forest Service and the entry gate to the Hill City Cemetery. He truly loved his family and enjoyed draft horses and drove horses in parades and he was involved in the Centennial Wagon Train and was also a Ranch Manager for several years. He also enjoyed dirt biking. He retired in 1999 due to his health and moved to Rapid City in 2003. He is survived by his wife: Susan Lykken of Rapid City; one daughter: Kirsten [Jarrett] Culverhouse of Rapid City; three grandchildren: Brennan, Lynae, and Shayla Culverhouse all of Rapid City; his mother: Mildred [Carl] Stasinowsky of Bridgman, Michigan; one brother: Arthur Lykken of Phoenix, AZ and one sister: Irene [Don] Petree of Onstad, Michigan. John was preceded in death by his father: Palmer Lykken and one son: Aaron Lykken in 2001. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church in Hill City. His funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Monday, March 19 at The Little White Church in Hill City with Rev. Ron Walker officiating. Burial will follow at the Hill City Cemetery. A memorial will be established by the family.
