Obituary

Custer - John August Peters, 72, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Custer Regional Senior Care, only after playing [and winning] one last game of cribbage with his "favorite" niece, Lynette. He was born on January 14, 1941 to Walter and Helen [Buchanan] Peters in Murdo, SD. He attended grade school in Midland and attended high school in Murdo. John served in the United States Navy and the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 where he received an Honorable Discharge. He was a man of many talents and worked at many different jobs throughout his life. He never met a stranger and will be remembered by his quick and witty sense of humor. Survivors include his sister: Karen [Peters] Finck of Rapid City; brother: Loren [Louise] Peters of San Antonio, TX; nephew: Steve Finck and nieces Lynette [Finck] Bianchi, Lenore [Peters] Wyrick and Tracy [Peters] Nettles, as well as his special Aunt Alice Jeitz. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, and a very special brother-in-law: Harold Finck. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Monday, February 25 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard. Graveside Services and burial will be 11:00 am Wednesday, February 27 at the Midland Cemetery.
