Obituary

Rapid City - John O. Pierce, 69, Rapid City, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Rapid City Regional Hospice Auxiliary House. His Celebration of Live Memorial Service will be 10:00 am Thursday, March 12 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Boulevard, with Chaplain Rev. Herb B. Cleveland officiating. John Oliver Pierce was born June 29, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Frank and Mary [Young] Pierce. John served in the United States Army and Army National Guard in the 1960's during the Vietnam Conflict. He was discharged early to return to his parent's farm following the unexpected death of his father. He was married to Etta Pierce for 26 years before they were divorced. For the past 15 years he has spent his life with his significant other, Nola Collins. For a time, John drove semi-truck and worked for a siding company. He also worked in construction and also for McKie Auto. John has been involved with several business ventures over the years as owner or co-owner. He was co-owner of the Black Hawk Lounge and over the years was owner of Unique Auto Groom, Hide A Way in Black Hawk, Longhorn Family Dining in Black Hawk, and along with Nola was co-owner of J & N Furniture in Rapid City. He also worked for Rochester Amour Service's and other security service companies. John enjoyed fishing and took some of his grandchildren to Horse Thief Lake and Centre Lake to teach them the techniques. He also loved to play pool and was on several teams over the years, he loved to grill out and his specialty of steaks on the grill, hunting and esp. deer and pheasant hunting. He loved to ride his motorcycle and attended many Sturgis Rally's as summer was his favorite time of the year because he also like to go pontoon boating on the lakes. His favorite holiday was Thanksgiving. John is survived by his significant other of 15 years: Nola Collins of Rapid City; three daughters: Candy Lester of Martinsville, Indiana, Karen Stevens of Paragon, Indiana, and Lana Miller of Indiana; one adopted son: Devlin Pierce of SD; one adopted daughter: Tonya Davis of Arlington, TX; one step-daughter: Nicole Collins of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Jaden Collins, Kobe Collins, Rebecca Pierce, Desi McPherson and several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three brothers: William Pierce of Paragon, Indiana, Lyle Pierce of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Stanley Pierce of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
