Obituary

On April 20, 2025, Easter Sunday, Jonathon Scott Doom of Rapid City, SD, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Born on June 8, 1987 in Wagner, SD, Jon filled his 37 years with love, laughter, and an unshakable devotion to his family.

Jon loved his wife, Mindy, fiercely, and together they shared 10 years of marriage. Jon and Mindy welcomed their daughter, Baker Grace (5), into their family in 2019, and their son, Graham Joseph (3), in 2022. He loved being a father, and his children were the biggest joys of his life.

Jon was one of a kind – someone who unapologetically marched to the beat of his own drum. His infectious laugh and signature smile—complete with that characteristic gap between his two front teeth—lit up every room. Jon's smile lives on in his children's faces, a constant reminder of the love he poured into their lives

A standout athlete, Jon was a four-year starting quarterback at Dakota Wesleyan University where he held the career passing yards record. More than an athlete, he was a leader who is said to have turned "a group of athletes into a true family." His love of sports carried into his unwavering loyalty to the Minnesota Twins and the ever-disappointing Minnesota Vikings.

Jon was a hard worker. He took great pride in building a home for his family alongside his dad and enjoyed working on the family's cherished cabin, Extravaganza. While earning his bachelor's degree in business administration, he launched University Window Cleaning, which he later rebranded to Rapid Window Cleaning. As an insurance adjuster, he advanced to District Manager for FMNE.

Jon truly enjoyed being outdoors, especially pheasant hunting with his dad, fishing in Canada with his grandpa, and golfing with his wife and friends. He loved playing sports with his kids in their backyard, taking his kids to play mini-golf at Pirate's Cove and going to the swimming pool (he probably asked to go to the pool more often than his kids). Jon also enjoyed time on his mountain bike, hiking, skiing, and being on the Missouri River.

Jon's other passions included cooking (especially with his mom), his Rushmore CrossFit noon crew, and music – oh, did he love his music! You were lucky if you enjoyed one of Jon's full-blast jam sessions of his favorite alternative or classic rock bands.

A humble man with a faith in Jesus Christ, Jon was a beloved father, husband, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and colleague. Jon's love extended to his Extravaganza family, where so many childhood memories were made.

Jon was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Papa Kirk and Grandpa Doom, and his cousin, Joey. He leaves behind a community of loved ones who will carry his light forward, especially his children, who will grow up knowing the boundless love of their "daddy."

Jon's memory will be cherished by his wife, Mindy, and their children, Baker and Graham; his parents, Scott and Lynne Doom; older sister Rachel (David) Woods and their children Jackson, Alex, and William; younger sister Kelsey (Sam) Bjornestad and their children Kristen, Alyssa, and Everett; parents-in-law, Herman and Karen Turnis; sisters-in-law, Megan (Chris) Houlihan and their children Tylor, Evan, and Katelyn; Heather (Colin) Nachtigal and their children Adalynn, Nolan, Rowan and Hendrix; and brother-in-law Drew (Tristen) Turnis and their children Parker, Blakely and Rynlee. Jon has countless grandmas, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who share in our grief.

Jon, you were so loved and will be greatly missed. Until we meet again…
