Josephine C.Jo Kirchgesler, 85, of Rapid City, died Sunday, June 5, 2011. She was born April 26, 1926 in Farmingdale, SD, to William and Cecilia (Froehle) Rogers, the second of three sets of twins in a family of 12. She grew up and attended school in Farmingdale, and was a 1945 graduate of Rapid City High School. She married Jacob Jack Kirchgesler on October 4, 1945, and raised nine children. Jo was active in numerous organizations, and received recognition for her service including being named Gold Star Mother of the Year. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church which later became St. Therese the Little Flower Church, where she remained active. She is survived by 5 sons, Eugene, Yankton, Kenneth, (Diane), Poplar Bluff, MO, Mark,(Melissa), Hermosa, Bill, Rapid City, and Chuck, Minneapolis, MN; 2 daughters Jackie (Rick) Heard and Judi Kirchgesler, both of Rapid City; grandsons Daniel J. Kirchgesler II, Spearfish, Steven Kirchgesler, Lead, David Heard, Rapid City and Jesse Kirchgesler, Rapid City; granddaughters, Kimberly (Brady) Day, Minneapolis, MN, Richelle Heard, Rapid City, Stephanie Kirchgesler, Laramie, WY and Trista Kirchgesler, Rapid City; great grandchildren, Jackson and Emerson Day, Minneapolis, MN; numerous nephews and nieces, including Eileen (Quinten) Feickert, Rapid City and 2 sisters, Monica Bosch, and Frances Pat (Harry) Evans. She was preceeded in death by her parents, nine siblings, husband Jacob (Jack) B. and sons, Daniel J.and Timothy T. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. Christian wake service, on Sunday, June 12, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, June 13, at the Church of St. Therese, the Little Flower, with the Rev. William Zandri presiding. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Therese Church.
