Obituary

Josephine (Jo) Parker, 84, long time resident of Rapid City passed away Wednesday evening in Fort Collins, Colorado. Jo was born in Hayes, Kansas May 22, 1925. She graduated from University of Colorado with a major in Journalism in 1945. It was in Boulder where she met and in 1947 married her late husband, Francis Thomas (Tom) Parker of Deadwood. Following the war Jo and Tom settled in Deadwood and in 1951 moved to Rapid City. Jo worked for the South Dakota Department of Social Services for 11 years as a case worker and supervisor. She was among the founding members of St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Jo loved to play bridge, travel and socialize with friends. She brought much compassion, love and joy to her many friends and family. She was preceded in death by her husband Tom in 2003. She is survived by their two daughters: Valorie White and her husband Gary of Fort Collins and their three children Jared, Nicholas, and Lauren and Kathleen Ammon and her husband, Arthur of Fountain Hills, Arizona. Visitation will be Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 9 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 910 Soo San Dr. with Rev. Kathy Monson-Lutes officiating. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery. The family requests donations to the Corner Stone Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 2188, Rapid City, South Dakota in lieu of flowers.
