RAPID CITY | Joyce (Agar) Hanson, 81, Johnson Siding, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital Auxiliary Hospice House. Born Jan. 20, 1932, near Langdon, ND, to farmers Ernest and Delia Agar, Joyce married the late Gordon Hanson (Hayti, SD), an Associated Press and Rapid City Journal newspaperman inducted into the SD Hall of Fame in 2008. Gordon and Joyce had three children: sons, Mike and Kelly, and daughter, Tracy. Joyce worked primarily as an accountant and a credit manager. She was a beauty queen and modeled occasionally over three decades but turned down an offer in her 20's to model in New York City. Joyce also acted in a not great movie called "Deadwood '76" (available on Amazon). Joyce was a beautiful person, all her life, inside and out. Her Christian faith was unshakable and evident among her very last words. She loved to laugh, pick berries, doll up, shop, take care of animals, give, stick up for others, drink coffee, study the Bible, Elvis Presley, work the crossword and Jumble, her neighbors, watch "Dancing With the Stars" with her best friend Shirley (while both were on the phone), and "battle her basement" which she actually did finally get organized a few months ago. Our loss is indescribable. She is survived by son, Mike (Sandra); daughter, Tracy (John) Romey; grandchildren, Cal, Cole, Jocelyn and Jaycene; her dear sister, Bette Mikkelsen; and brother, Warren. Due to the blizzard, a new service time is 9:00 am for Joyce for Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please do a good deed for someone.
