Johnson
August 11, 1929 – May 5, 2026
Juanita Jane Johnson was born August 11, 1929, in Mobridge to Emanuel and Lydia (Schuh) Schlepp. She attended school in Java and later attended the National School of Business in Rapid City. She then worked for the IRS in Aberdeen, where she met and married William G. Johnson in 1949.
The couple first lived in Oakes, ND for three years before moving to Albuquerque, NM. Juanita worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs while Bill worked for Indian Health Services. During a two-year transfer to Washington DC, Juanita worked for the HEW Division of Nursing. They later returned to Albuquerque, where they continued their careers until retiring in 1984 and moving to Rapid City. Bill passed away in 1987. Juanita remained in the home they built together until moving to Good Samaritan–St. Martin Village Townhomes in May 2015.
Juanita said, “I’ve had a wonderful life. I’ve been blessed.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; and her sister, Agnes Haskell, In laws: Chester and Frances Johnson; brothers-in-law: Harvey Weisgram, Bob Goeman, Jack Nichols and Charles Johnson; sisters-in- law: Nancy Nichols and Elaine Johnson.
Grateful for having shared her life are her sisters, Sallie Weisgram and Gail (Bob) Gauer; nephews, Greg Haskell, Scott (Dawn) Haskell, and Mike Goeman; nieces, Cheryl Haskell, Rhonda Haskell, Lisa (Paul) Nelson, Mary (Mike) Pryor, Jacqueline (Nate) Pamplin, Julie Young, Gail (Mike) Merck, Susan (Lonnie) Heth, Alan Johnson; and many wonderful great-nieces and great-nephews and their children, other special relatives and dear friends made throughout the years.

Her funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Peace Lutheran Church with visitation starting at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
