Judith Ann Hondl, 72, of Rapid City, died Saturday, March 19, at Rapid City Regional Hospital after a courageous fight against cancer.

She was born August 14, 1943, in Adrian, Michigan to Florian and Theresa Armbrust. At the age of 2 she moved with her family back to Dickinson, ND where she was raised. Judy was educated at St. Joseph Catholic School. She graduated from Dickinson High School in the Class of 1961 where she was a member of the National Honor Society and participated in Speech and Thespian activities.

On June 25, 1962, she married August Hondl in Dickinson, ND and began their life together. Together they raised a family, operated Badlands Glass Company, and celebrated life with many lifelong friends. They moved to Rapid City in 1989 where Judy worked as a medical transcriptionist for many years before her retirement in 2007.

Judy enjoyed baking, her grandchildren, visiting National Parks, and riding motorcycles with August. She was passionate about genealogy and recently completed a book detailing the family tree for her and August. Everyone who met her enjoyed her sense of humor and her warm personality.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, August, Rapid City; two sons, Kevin (Kris) Hondl, Andover, MN, and Kurt (Larenda) Hondl, Oklahoma City, OK; a brother, Donald (Joanne) Armbrust, Ashland, WI; and a sister, Marie (Jerry) Gahner, Beulah, ND; and 3 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, Donald.

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 27, from 6-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Christian vigil service at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.

A Christian funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 28 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Fr. Brian Lane presiding. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Rapid City.
