RAPID CITY | Karen Lee Becket, 80, died Jan. 28, 2014, at her home. Karen was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Aberdeen to Christian and Esther (Brown) Hoseth. As a young girl her family moved to Rapid City. She graduated from Rapid City High School and Augustana College, Sioux Falls. After graduation she taught music in Sioux Falls before returning to Rapid City, where she taught elementary school at Annie Tallent School. On June 16, 1959, she married Neil Becket at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rapid City. The couple were lifetime residents of Rapid City. She was a church organist and musician at Trinity Lutheran Church and a homemaker. She remained active in her church until her death. She enjoyed singing and playing piano with the Joyful Guys and Gals and The Golden Oldies. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, music, family and friendships. In her younger years she loved gardening and especially loved her rose garden. Supporting her church, charities and special causes was very important to her. Survivors include her son, Christopher (Deanna) Becket, Tilford; daughters, Janet Carlon, Fort Dodge, IA, and Lisa (David) Doyle, Rapid City; and seven grandchildren, Amy Carlon, Ashley Carlon and Allison Carlon, all of Fort Dodge, Madison Doyle and Macy Doyle, both of Rapid City, and Ian Becket and Kaleigh Becket, both of Tilford. Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Neil Becket; and her parents. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Wilbur Holz officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Pine Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
