RAPID CITY- Karen "Kay" Stewart of Rapid City passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013, two days before her 75th Birthday, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Kay was born in Rapid City in 1938. She grew up in New Underwood and graduated from New Underwood High School. Kay attended college in Spearfish, SD at Black Hills State College and at Chadron State College, NE where she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education. Kay went on to teach First and Second Grade for several years and loved working with children. Kay married David R. Stewart, Sr. on August 27, 1960, in New Underwood. Together they had one son, David R. Stewart, Jr. In 53 years Kay and Dave lived in ten different States before returning to Rapid City. She found it very interesting to teach in the various states she resided. She will be remembered for her quick wit, loving nature, and ability to always lift spirits. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen Edgar Gregson and Mary Winifred Biever Gregson, two sisters, Patricia Harwood and Marilu Green, brother, Glenn Francis Gregson, and brother-in-law, Frank Braden. She is survived by her husband, Dave; sister, Helene Braden; her son, David and Paulette Stewart of Helena, MT, and their children, Delaney and Duncan Stewart. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home, 2700 Jackson Blvd. in Rapid City, with a Christian Wake Service and Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at St. John's Catholic Church in New Underwood. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with St. John's Catholic Church in New Underwood.
