Obituary
Karla Ann Richey, 60, unexpectedly left this Earth on April 24, 2017. She was born in Rapid City on Aug. 22, 1956 to Ole and Marion Olson. On Aug 11, 1979, she married Ray M. Richey in Rapid City, SD. She retired from the Post Office May of 2013.
She started coaching bowling in 1986. She served as president of the YABA/ RCJBA for 8 years, 6 years as the Coca Cola Youth Tournament director and SD bowling council for 5 years. She was elected in 2002 to the RCWBA where she would serve as secretary treasurer and would later be an instrumental part of merging the men, women and youth programs to what is now called USBC. Karla was also the local association manager and for the last 4 years has been the tournament director for the Women's State bowling tournament. Karla has been recognized locally as You t h Director of the Year twice, inducted into the local Hall of Fame for Meritorious in 2003 and Superior Performance in 2000. Karla was also inducted into the state Hall of Fame for Meritorious in 2001 and Superior Performance in 2005.
Karla held many board positions including President of youth bowling council and SD State bowling board of director for WIBC. She received many awards in her bowling career including Queen of the Hill, 1997 and many others on state and local levels.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Marion Olson.
She is survived by her husband, Ray, Rapid City; son Christopher (Heidi), Casper, WY; daughter Dennesa (Johnny), Summerville, SC; son Mike (Corie), Rapid City; granddaughters Rae Anna and Taya and brother Roger (Amy) Olson of Rapid City.
Visitation is Sunday, April 30, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with Pastor Herb Cleveland officiating. Interment will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery at 3:00 pm.
