Obituary

RAPID CITY- Katherine C. Jacobson, 95, passed from this life on June 27, 2011 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born on March 12, 1916 in Buhl, MN to Croatian immigrants Katherine and Martin Lulich. She spent her early childhood in Saxon, WI. At the early age of 12, her family moved to Laona, WI. She attended high school in Laona and was the valedictorian of the Class of 1933. After high school she attended Business College in Milwaukee and in 1935 she married Marvin Guth, a cheese maker from Saxon. They settled in Phillips, WI where they raised a family of four children and operated a cheese factory. In 1945, they decided to build a supper club in Phillips; it was called the Skyline and was known throughout the area for its great food and the wonderful music Katherine provided each evening on the Hammond Organ for the continuous flow of customers. After six years of operating the supper club, they decided to sell and get back in the dairy business which was less demanding. Another move, this time to Argonne; where they purchased the Argonne Dairy, which she and her husband operated until his death in 1957. Two years later, Katherine grew restless and purchased a Childrens Clothing Store in Rhinelander called Tot to Teen followed by the purchase of another store with Ladies fashions called Smartwear. In 1964 she met and later married Clarence Jacobson of Rapid City, SD. They resided in Rapid City and once more Katherine was compelled to enter the business world. She opened a Ladies dress shop called Katherines and operated that business for five years at which time she decided to do some traveling. After retirement and considerable travel experience, she and Clarence enjoyed keeping their home and lawn looking perfect and having the kids and grandkids visit. Katherine was a strong determined woman. Feisty and tenacious, she had an appetite for adventure and an ambitiousness that wasnt thwarted by a little dirt or hard work. She loved the Lord, her Church, and her family; and was protective of all of these. Survivors include two daughters, Marlene (Leo) Pelek of Largo, FL; Jacquelyn King, San Pedro, CA; two sons, Karl (Colette) Guth, Hiles, WI; Martin (Jean) Guth, Las Cruces, NM; eleven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one brother, Donald (Mary) Tadich, Bloomington, MN; two nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a granddaughter, son-in-law, a niece, and just recently her only sister Rose, on June 17, 2011. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Janusz Korban presiding. Interment will take place at a later date at St. Peters Cemetery in Eagle River, WI.
