MESA, ARIZ. | Kathleen E. Oulman Aldren, 96, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Springdale Village. Kathleen "Katie" Brown was born Nov. 25, 1916, in Newell, SD. She married Richard C. Oulman in 1934 and four children were born of this marriage. Katie worked in the kitchen at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD, for 19 years. She was often the first driver on winter roads from their home in Hermosa, SD, to the SDSM&T campus. After Richard died in 1984 Katie continued to live on their "little piece of ground" near Hermosa until she married Olaf M. Aldren on Feb. 1, 1986. Olaf and Katie lived in Black Hawk, SD, but traveled frequently to Arizona where eventually they made Mesa their permanent home. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Herrmann, Lakewood, CO; daughters-in-law, Kathy Oulman Johnson, Rapid City, and Betty Oulman, Aurora, CO; 17 grandchildren (including Mary Cook Vander Vorste who was with her when she passed); 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Katie was preceded in death by her husbands, Richard Oulman and Olaf Aldren; two sons, David Oulman and Daniel Oulman; daughter, Virginia Kiefer; her parents; her brother, Stanley and great granddaughter, Kendalyn Pullen. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home with Pastor Brent Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
