RAPID CITY- Kathryn (Katy) Lou Hicks, 87, of Rapid City, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Monument Health.

Katy was born January 5, 1936 in Mitchell, South Dakota to her parents, Cecil Robert Hicks and Esther Irene (Canedy) Hicks. She grew up in Rapid City and graduated from Central High School in 1954. Katy worked for Northwestern Bell/US West in Rapid City and Sioux Falls, retiring in 1998 after 44 years of service.

Katy was a wonderful, loyal friend. She loved to ride through the Black Hills enjoying the wildlife and the scenery. She was a bowler, enjoyed puzzles, laughing and chocolate.

Katy was a member of the Rapid City Bowling Hall of Fame and a 25-year attendee of the WIBC National Bowling Tournament. She enjoyed her many friends at Westhills Village. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Esther; and her brothers: Mayner, Robert and Richard.

Katy is survived by five nieces: Barbara Clabaugh, Karen King, Lynn (John) Eilts, Hawarden, IA; Shari Hewitt and Lori Kennedy; three nephews: Bob (Annette), St. Paul, MN; Greg, Sioux Falls; Rich (Mary Beth), Tilden, OR; great nephew, Blaine Eilts and great niece, Ashlyn Eilts. She is also survived by her good friend, Valarie (Dennis) Langbehn, Hill City.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home.
