Dr. Keith Twombley Johnson died on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the age of 94.
He was born in the family home in Knoxville, Iowa on November 15, 1930, the third child of Paul and Marjorie (Twombley) Johnson.
After graduating from Knoxville High School in 1948 he attended Iowa State University and received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1955. He served four years in the Iowa National Guard.
He received a commission in the US Air Force and served two years with the Air Defense Command stationed in Minneapolis where he attained the rank of Captain. In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Long.
In 1961 Keith opened the Mountain View Veterinary Clinic on Jackson Blvd. retiring in 1996.
He enjoyed many activities including hiking, scuba diving, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, gardening, flying and photography.
He was active in the SD Veterinary Medical Association.
Past memberships include: Masonic orders, Rapid City Rotary Club, Story Book Island, Shrine of Democracy Chorus, Sons of the American Revolution and the Mayflower Society, Western SD Buckaroos, Custer's Trail Riders, Back Country Horsemen, Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church, a member of the 7th Cavalry Drum & Bugle Corps, and Hospice Volunteer.
He is survived by his daughters Amy White, Rapid City, Nancy (Matthew) Wyatt, Silverthorne, CO.; sons, David Johnson, Blythe, CA and Rev. Paul (Kyoko) Johnson, Tokyo, Japan; grandchildren, Marjorie White, and Kenji, Megumi and Mina Johnson, and great grandson Kavi White.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, JoAnn, brother Ted Johnson and sister Shirley Bellamy.
A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, February 15, 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Church, Rapid City, SD. Memorials may be directed to Story Book Island.
