The Rev. Kenneth Warren Dugan, 93, met his Savior face-to-face early Wednesday morning, Oct. 19, 2016, at Hospice House of the Black Hills. His life was spent as a faithful servant of the Lord with his compassionate and giving nature most remembered by all.
Ken was born March 4, 1923, in St. Paul, MN, to Eugene and Edna Dugan. He joined the Army in 1941. Ken served 44 months in the South Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged on May 29, 1945. He is a proud survivor of the Pearl Harbor bombing.
He received degrees from Gustavus Adolphus College (B.A.), Augustana Theological Seminary (B.D.), Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, Berkeley (Th.M.), and the University of Minnesota.
Ken was ordained as a Lutheran minister in 1952. He went on to serve 12 parishes, including Borneo and Papua New Guinea. His dedication to the ministry was obvious by the outpouring of love and support throughout his life from friends, family, and parishioners here and abroad.
On Sept. 25, 1985, Ken married his beloved wife, Mavis (Larson) Dugan in Lihue, Kauai, HI. They spent the next 31 years living an adventurous life to its fullest with an infectious happiness full of love.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Dugan Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; brother, Willis "Bill" Dugan; children, Timothy Dugan, Kevin Dugan, Jeffrey Dugan, Lisa Olberding (Mark), Kelley Le Beaux, and Vicki Hebb (Marty); grandchildren, Shannon, Jennifer, Kristi, Kiera, Kelci, and Averi; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.
A sharing and memorial prayer service will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at South Canyon Lutheran Church.
Interment service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, with military honors. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at South Canyon Lutheran Church.
A memorial fund has been established for Crossroads Lutheran Mission Church that Rev. Kenneth and Mavis attended in Arizona.
