Some people leave their mark in boardrooms or headlines. Kevin left his in the woods, on winding Jeep trails, around campfires, and in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He felt most at home surrounded by nature. Whether he was exploring back roads, discovering a new trail in his Jeep, watching a quiet sunrise, or simply enjoying the peace of the outdoors, he found joy in life's simplest and most beautiful moments. To him, the wilderness wasn't just a place to visit--it was where he truly belonged.
He had a remarkable way of teaching others without it ever feeling like he was giving a lesson. Through his actions, stories, and conversations, he reminded people to slow down, appreciate the little things, lend a helping hand, stay true to themselves, and never stop exploring. His wisdom was genuine, practical, and rooted in the life he lived every day. Above all, Kevin will be remembered for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and unwavering authenticity. He inspired others to embrace life's journey with courage, curiosity, and gratitude. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether they were family, lifelong friends, or someone he'd just met along the trail.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Dave Stairs. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply, including his mother, Suzanne Stairs, his sister Kristi Krepel, brother-in-law, Aaron Krepel, nephew, Dylan Krepel, and niece Harper Krepel, along with countless friends whose lives are richer because they knew him.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that his spirit lives on in every forest path, every hill and mountain view, every dusty Jeep trail, and every quiet moment spent in nature. Whenever we hear the wind through the trees or watch the sun set over the horizon, we'll think of him and remember the lessons he taught us--not just through his words, but through the way he lived.
Services will take place in O'Neill, Nebraska, at a later date.
