Obituary

L. Dale Johnson, 87, Rapid City, went to be with The Lord Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Dale was born May 16, 1923 to Henry and Elsie Johnson in Quinn, South Dakota. He was one of eleven children. Dale attended Dakota Wesleyan University on a basketball scholarship. He served in the Navy from 1943 to 1945. Dale married Alice Madill in June of 1946 and they made their home in Rapid City. He worked many years in Rapid City selling cars for Chevy, Pontiac and Buick. He spent his retired years; six months in Mesa, AZ and six months in Rapid City enjoying his grandkids. Dale had many hobbies and interests over the years including hunting, horseshoe, golf, and woodworking. Dale enjoyed hanging out with his pals at the Elks Club. His buddies meant the world to him. Survivors include a son, Mike Johnson and wife Brigid, Knoxville,TN ; three daughters, Patricia Weiss, Rapid City, Sharon Sime and husband Dennis, Mesa, AZ. and Jackie Jensen and husband Neil, of Rapid City; a dear sister Elaine Oyler and husband Louie of rapid City. Grandchildren; Heather(Johnson) and Neil Harkins, Spearfish; Matt and Sarah Johnson, Chattanooga, TN; Louie and Trish Weiss, Colorado Springs, CO; Alyce (Weiss) and Fred Staples, Colorado Springs, CO; Robert and Janele Buxton, Rapid City, SD; Dennis and Jennifer Sime; Mesa AZ; Jeff and Dani Sime, West Bend, OR; Greg and Kim Sime, Florida, Melissa Sime, Phoenix, AZ; Nicholas and Alycia Jensen, Rapid City, SD; Nathan Jensen, Rapid City, SD; and Amanda Jensen, Rapid City, SD. Great-grandchildren include; Kate, Gavin, Ethan, Alex, Spencer, Skyler, Aidan, Cameron, Sierra, Alice, Jacob, Kailey, Gage, Caleb, Caitlin, Ryder, Jaxon, Braxton and Bryce; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Scott Wiley officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by Rushmore VFW Post No. 1273 and the South Dakota National Guard will be at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis at 2:30 p.m. with a reception following at Word of Hope Wesleyan Church at 1351 Jolly Lane in Rapid City. A memorial has been established for the Veterans Honor Flight.
