Larry L. Hartman, 63, Keystone, died Thursday December 10th 2009 at home in Rapid City. Larry was born in Kulm, ND, son of Gottlieb and Delores Hartman, the youngest of three children. He grew up on his parents farm outside of Kulm and graduated from Kulm High School in 1964. Larry lettered in football, becoming co-captain of the football team and excelled as a defensive end and linebacker. Larry was also homecoming king his senior year. He attended Dakota Business College, and later graduated from National College with a bachelors degree in accounting. However, Larrys love of the outdoors led him to purchase a logging truck and work as a logger in the Black Hills he loved. When the logging business declined, he went back to accounting and opened his own firm in Rapid City. He met the love of his life Norma Felder in 1984, which brought the addition of her two daughters, Kim and Cindy into his life. He and Norma married on October 21st, 1988. In 1991 Larry and Norma purchased the Elk Haven Resort near Custer State Park. They owned and operated Elk Haven until they sold it to pursue other interests in 2001. In November 2004 Norma was diagnosed with ALS. Larry spent the next years devotedly caring for his bride until she passed away in April of 2008. That same month he was diagnosed with cancer. He spent his remaining time traveling and spending time with his children and family. Larry was a man of simple tastes. He loved the outdoors, cooking, gardening and spending time with good friends.
