Obituary

Larry J. Larry Mac McDaniels, 67, died at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice House on Thursday, February 18, 2010. Larry James McDaniels was born on January 12, 1943, in Rapid City to Fred and Margaret (Linder) McDaniels. Larry spent part of his school years in Sacramento and graduated from Rapid City High School in 1961. He then served in the Navy for 6 years. Larry worked at the Budweiser Brewery at Fairfield , CA, from 1977 until his retirement in 2000. He spent over 20 years in Vacaville, CA, where he made many life-long friendships. All through his life, he loved motor sports, hot rods and Harley Davidson motorcycles. After retirement he moved back to Rapid City, where he enjoyed his cottage business, BH Trader; which dealt in antiques and collectibles. He met the love of his life, Louise Keller Haugen, and they were married on April 26, 2007. In October of 2008, Larry was diagnosed with Mesothelioma. He fought the hard fight until his death. Larry was a kind, generous and loving husband. He will be truly missed by his many friends and relatives. Survivors include his wife, Louise McDaniels, Rapid City; his mother, Margaret McDaniels, Rapid City; 2 sisters, Sandy Rogerson, Rapid City and Shirley Brassfield, Sacramento; 1 step-son, Benjamin Haugen, Vicksburg, MS; a step-daughter, Kori (Travis) Freier, Rapid City; 2 brothers-in-law, Bill and Ray Keller, both of Rapid City; a sister-in-law, Melanie Routt, Rapid City and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his father and Louises son Joshua Haugen. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Rimrock Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Pat Karn officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Black Hills National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials for Hospice of the Hills.
