IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Larry
Romano
February 14, 1949 – September 2, 2023
Larry Vincent Romano, age 74, of Rapid City, South Dakota passed away September 2, 2023, at his home. Larry was born February 14, 1949, in Fresno, California to Lucille (Barra) Romano and Vincent Anthony Romano. He married the love of his life Marie Antionette Allen on September 8, 1973, at Saint Joseph's of Cupertino church in Cupertino California. They made their home in San Jose, California until they moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1982.
Larry worked in construction as a rough framer, and later retired from the Rapid City Regional Airport in 2010. Larry loved football and was an avid Raiders fan. He also loved rock n roll and his beloved dogs. Larry and Marie were active in volunteering for their community. Some of the organizations included the Honor Flight Network, which honors World War II American veterans; Western South Dakota Meals on Wheels program; the Sgt. Colton Levi Derr Foundation for veterans suicide prevention; the Rapid City Police Department Auxiliary; and served many meals at the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.
In 2020 during a heart stent procedure, a large blood clot traveled to his left frontal lobe and wiped it out. This affected his memory, cognitive, and speech. He was a brave survivor and was very determined on a daily basis to work hard at rehabbing his right lobe. His devoted wife Marie was by his side every step of the way and was a fierce advocate.
Larry's favorite sayings were "it's alright, it is what it is"; "onward and upward"; "I know the words I can't say"; and "I can do it!". Larry was an inspiration to many, and his smile could light up a room!
Larry was preceded in death by his mother Lucille (Barra) Romano, his father Vincent Anthony Romano, and one nephew Tony Romano. He is survived by his wife Marie Antionette Romano (Rapid City, South Dakota), stepmother Barbara Romano (Hollister, California), half-brother Gary Romano (Fresno, California), half-sister Gail Baraby (Holister, California), Uncle James "Uncle Jimmy" Romano, Aunt Celeste Romano, (both of Clovis, California), one niece and three nephews, and his beloved fur babies Molly and Sohpie.
