Obituary

RAPID CITY- LaVerne Clem, 86, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at Clarkson Health Care. LaVerne was born on December 2, 1929 in Norris, SD to Oscar and Marjorie (Dale) Greenough.

Following high school, LaVerne received her teacher's certificate at Black Hills Teacher College and taught for several years. In her mid-20's, LaVerne became legally deaf and had to retire from teaching.

She married Clifford J. Clem on June 1, 1950 in Martin, SD and to this union they had five children. They farmed until 1964 and then moved to Lead, SD. She owned 25 rental properties in Lead.

In the summer of 2016, LaVerne sold her last two rental properties.

LaVerne was a very accomplished seamstress. She was well known for her large garden and abundant produce, as well as canning for her kids and grandkids.

Survivors include her son, Larry (Sheila) Clem, Spearfish; four daughters: Marcy (Pat) Jones, Rapid City; Betty Morris, Sturgis; Helen Bear Killer, Alliance, NE; Viola (John) Holman, Julesburg, CO; two brothers: Raymond (Joan) Greenough, Martin; Billy (Norma) Greenough, Oelrichs; two sisters: Barbara (Bob) Sears, Belle Fourche; Donna Greenough, Martin; 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; brother, Jesse Greenough; granddaughter, Peggy Clem; and two son in laws, Fred Bear Killer and David Morris.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2016 at South Canyon Lutheran Church with Rev. Bruce Thalacker officiating. Burial will be at Pine Slope Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial has been established to Clarkson Health Care.
